The goal of this initiative was to empower business users—particularly those in global high-tech enterprises—to independently manage data integration without relying on IT support. Traditionally, uploading and preparing data for analysis involved lengthy delays, often stretching over several weeks. The objective was to eliminate these bottlenecks by creating a self-service application that would streamline data ingestion, reduce turnaround time, and enable faster decision-making. The tool also needed to support diverse data sources, ensure enterprise-grade security, and provide built-in data quality checks—all while being intuitive enough for non-technical users.
Business Continuity Plan | Streamlined Data Migration and Mapping for Cloud Success
The Business Continuity Plan (BCP) was launched in April 2020 to streamline the process of mapping and migrating data assets. A Fortune 500 company collaborated with a data solutions provider to facilitate their transition to the cloud using Azure Data Factory. The BCP initiative focused on transferring legacy datasets onto modern cloud-based platforms.
As part of this effort, 135 reports were migrated with the help of a Python-based automation script designed to consolidate outputs into a single document. The scope also included query analysis and reporting.
The data services team oversaw end-to-end data flow management using Azure Data Factory and ADF pipelines. Source data, formatted as Parquet files, was ingested and loaded into Azure Synapse tables through these pipelines. The team also conducted rigorous data quality assessments to ensure integrity throughout the process.
Key challenges in the project involved mapping complex resource data and aggregate tables. Ultimately, seventy tables were loaded, which now support forty-eight reports actively used by end users. Incremental data loads are executed daily across all seventy tables. If a blob or input file is missing for any given day, an automated email alert is triggered, prompting the Extract Data Load team to take immediate action and reprocess that day’s data.
