Accelerating Business Enablement | Driving Speed to Market with Self-Service Integration
Objectives
The goal of this initiative was to empower business users—particularly those in global high-tech enterprises—to independently manage data integration without relying on IT support. Traditionally, uploading and preparing data for analysis involved lengthy delays, often stretching over several weeks. The objective was to eliminate these bottlenecks by creating a self-service application that would streamline data ingestion, reduce turnaround time, and enable faster decision-making. The tool also needed to support diverse data sources, ensure enterprise-grade security, and provide built-in data quality checks—all while being intuitive enough for non-technical users.
Solution
In early 2020, the head of Business Enablement at a multinational tech company partnered with a data solutions provider to co-develop a business-owned data integration tool. The project, which had been in consideration for nearly two years, was delivered in just twelve weeks—from April to July 2020.
The resulting application significantly transformed the data onboarding process. Previously, loading business-managed tables (BMT) could take up to nine weeks, including approvals. The new solution introduced an integrated workflow that reduced this time to just three minutes. By enabling self-service capabilities, business users could now ingest and manage data independently, without needing to coordinate with multiple departments.
Key features included automated data quality checks, reconciliation tools, and built-in compliance with enterprise security protocols. The application also offered seamless authorization and authentication, ensuring that users could operate securely within their roles. As project lead Gayatri Shrikanth noted, the tool was designed to eliminate the need for technical expertise—allowing users to complete complex tasks entirely within the application.
Conclusion
This self-service integration tool revolutionized how business users interact with data—cutting turnaround times from weeks to minutes and removing technical barriers. It empowered teams to move faster, make informed decisions, and bring new agility to enterprise operations.
